Imagine a helpless, pregnant 16-year-old who’s just been yanked from the serenity of her home and shoved into a dirty van. Kidnapped…Alone…Terrified.
Now forget her…
Picture instead a pregnant, 16-year-old, manipulative prodigy. She is shoved into a dirty van and, from the first moment of her kidnapping, feels a calm desire for two things: to save her unborn child and to exact merciless revenge.
She is methodical—calculating— scientific in her plotting. A clinical sociopath? Leaving nothing to chance, secure in her timing and practice, she waits—for the perfect moment to strike. Method 15/33 is what happens when the victim is just as cold as her abductors.
This is one of the most unique thrillers I read for a long time. The concept is very different. A pregnant teenager gets kidnapped. She tells us her story seventeen years later so we already know, that she will survive. But from page one we learn, that the kidnapper sealed his own faith when he took that girl. Lisa, as we learn quite late in the book is her name, is different. She is very gifted; she is already a kind of scientist. And she has switches inside her for her feelings. She can turn them off and on as she wants to. And this helps her in while she is locked up in this house. She is very cool and she begins to plan her escape. But also she plans to murder the people who keep her imprisoned. So she turns in a kind of McGyver and took everything she has into assets. Even the blanket turns into a deadly weapon. And so she keeps planning and training until day 33.
You just have to deal with this strange, cool girl. She is not easy to like. The author leads the story very cleverly. While Lisa is plotting a trap, she also tells us about her life and her family and about herself and the way her mind works. There is also a policemen, Roger Liu and his partner Lola. They are looking for a kidnapped girl. They got track of culprit quite soon. Both narratives come together perfectly as well as the timeline.
This book is a thriller as a thriller should be. It is incredibly gripping, dark, disturbing and unusual. I am always looking for something unusual and this book is definitely special. You just have to deal with the strange characters. Even the policemen have special abilities. Liu has an incredible memory and his eyesight is exceptional. Lola can smell almost like a dog. You just have to accept all these special breeds in this book.
I enjoyed this book very much and I recommend it highly.
